The depiction of Bonhoeffer is to my knowledge as close as it came come in portrayal of him. Sobering, gives one cause to pause to view their position.

Excellent production and telling of the fascinating true story of Deitrich Bonhoeffer and one attempt to stop the monstrous Nazi machine. Illustrates true self sacrifice and heroism, and the Biblical principal "faith without works is dead."

It was a very good film. Really enjoyed the background and history of Bonhoeffer. A very interesting person.

I've used this video to expose young adults in our church to great Christians. Bonhoeffer's journey speaks to many issues my students are grappling with: war, political engagement, the role of the church in society. There is great insight as you watch Bonhoeffer keep his focus on Christ and engage with the world around him.

Excellent factual account of Bonhoeffer's life and the significance of his activities as a scholar, philosopher, leader and in his elected role as an active anti-Nazi citizen. Ausgezeichnet!

Small Miracles Girl's Glamour Light Up Tutu Small Miracles Girl's Glamour Light Up Tutu

I purchased this tutu as a birthday gift for a four year old girl. The tutu is adorable, however I thought the lights would be a little brighter. The picture makes it look like the stars on the skirt are lit up, but it has fibro-optic lights that hang from the waistband. All in all it is very cute and I am sure if the child is into dancing and dressing up, this is a perfect gift.

Really neat idea.. esp. if your daughter loves to dance. Expensive to buy it here. I have seen the same item in stores for less.

this is such an adorable tutu! it didn't work right away, but once i unscrewed and adjusted (wiggled) the battery case, it worked well. it fits my skinny 3 year old. it has a velcro tab that can be adjusted to fit small to big waists or as they grow. it's light weight and well made. the lights are located at the end of tiny plastic extensions sprinkled throughout the tutu. it gives the tutu extra shape. my only complaint is that I have found a few fiber optic lines on the floor after a particularly active dance session. absolutely worth the money (i purchased it for $20).

For The Bible Tells Me So For The Bible Tells Me So

FINALLY- a film that dives into the complexity of being gay and christian. real people, pain-filled examples of abuse. clear scripture clarification. detailed accounts of how the bible is being misused. this should be shown and discussed at great detail in all churches- if more people watched this with an open mind then the face of christianity would better resemble that of the face of Christ. ALSO: the production values were A+. frequently films like this are made poorly, and the low budget shows. this was entertaining and quality film making!

The thing I was most nervous about watching this documentary was how respectful they'd be towards the Bible. I didn't want to watch something that was going to rehash the old "The Bible is overly edited" or "God is a fairy tale" point of views. I didn't want them to tell me I should be an atheist, and they certainly didn't. This is a very respectful documentary. At no point did it ever feel completely one-sided or slanted, it just felt honest. They simply look at the Bible in an intelligent way, they analyze it like any good scholar would analyze ancient words - with history and cultural incite to the time it was written. A highlight is when they bring up the classic old Leviticus verse that says man lying with man is an abomination. They mention that this was mostly an issue of time and culture of the Israelites who considered pro-creation a necessary for survival. But more importantly than that, they highlight the verses right after that one which also calls eating pork an abomination, and a whole giant list of things like putting two seeds in one hole of soil as an "abomination". They interview families who accepted their children's sexuality, and they show the parents who completely rejected it. They showed the families that rejected it at first and then became more understanding. There is a wide variety of stories shown in this film, and even if you don't have a gay person in your family this should be a must see just to educate you on the struggles they might be facing. All in all I'd say this is the best documentary I've seen that focuses on homosexuality. It covers a wide range of topics, like discrimination, religion, family, and of course the Bible that a lot of others don't. I plan on owning a couple copies for my personal library just so I can loan them out to anyone who might be struggling to understand how homosexuality and religion mix or just the simple understanding of people who are different from themselves.

I got an email confirming the item had been returned, but the strange part is it was never received by me & I actually had wanted this DVD!

Informative, creative and moving. A long over-due examination of the complex issues surrounding religion and homosexuality.

We recently watched this video in class--everyone was moved. I would highly recommend this video to anyone with questions about the issues of gay identity, or gay marriage. The lives of those involved were portrayed with thoughtfulness and honesty; this film can bring the roots of mis-attribution of negative traits to the surface, so that they can be considered within a more grounded and realistic framework.

Average Rating:

Winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Seattle Interntional Film Festival, Dan Karslake's provocative, entertaining documentary brilliantly reconciles homosexuality and Biblical scripture, and in the process reveals that Church-sanctioned anti-gay bias is based solely upon a significant (and often malicious) misinterpretation of the Bible...

Princess Tutu: Complete Collection Princess Tutu: Complete Collection

This is a beautifully done series. Whoever made this truly loved ballet and fairy tales. While not all of the dancing is animated, the whole things is breathtakingly illustrated, one of the most gorgeous series I've ever seen. I only have one gripe, and that is only about the packaging, where the six discs are stacked within the case so they are more prone to scratches.

I have fallen in love with the series! I only saw a few episodes on TV. At first when I saw it about ballet, I was a little skeptical because I thought it would a girly, almost sissy, froo-froo (girly-girly). But it actually wasn't all about that. It had its balance to the girly aspect with darkness and such. I found it to a wonderful and great series. The ending is something I didn't see coming.

I watched the first few episodes of Princess Tutu online a while back, but came to a dead end by episode 9. Finally I bought it the other day, two years later, and I'm quite glad I did. It's lovely, although my friends find it slow at the beginning. I've only gotten up to around episode 14 but I've fallen in love. My only complaint I have is on the English dub and the 'Beginner Ballet' lessons. The English voice cast take 'weird' to the extreme with their either extremely high, low, squeaky, or tired voices, and it causes distraction. So normally I just turn on the subtitles and switch it to Japanese, which sounds much more pleasing to the ears. Then there's the ballet lessons, which are basically repeated footage from the first few episodes and Professor Cat (in English, mind you) saying something about vocabulary, and ending with an annoying, "Or you will marry me!" It doesn't teach anything, so I personally find it a waste of time and space on the disk. I'd read the plot beforehand, maybe watch the first episode online, and if you like I'd advis buying this. Overall, this set is a great buy, and if you're into 'chick-flick' anime, you'll love this.

Okay, so I started watching this series two days ago, and I already finished it. It's soo addicting and just all around a beautiful anime. It's basically-ugh, I really can't describe it! It's beautiful, it brings back memories of older fairy tales, and it's just amazing. The OST for it, too, is wonderful and has inspired me to play my violin again. The only, ONLY gripe I have about this anime is the ending, buuut I'm not going into details~~ ^-^ You'll just have to watch it to find out~

This series combines a twist on our regular stories which we have grown up loving with an original idea creating a wonderful piece. A must watch.

No Future Without Forgiveness No Future Without Forgiveness

This is a very inspiring book. It shows you the power of forgiving and how revenge will lead to no where. Holding a grudge and seeking revenge will only lead to more violence. Just like the book title there is no future without forgiveness.

book received on time and in top condition. As for the book itself it is a "must read" for the whole world and only then will we have a chance for peace.

South Africa is such an incredible country, a beautiful country and beautiful peoples meant to be a blessing to all of its people, to the continent of Africa and to the world. Archbishop Desmond Tutu has written a remarkable story of the impact of apartheid upon its people. Nelson Mandela wrote on the back cover, "The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of South AFrica has put the spotlight on all of us...In its hearings Desmond Tutu has conveyed our common pain and sorrow, our hope and confidence in the future." This is also the story of the most incredible free elections that the world has witnessed and how South Africa avoided a much anticipated bloodshed. With so many other countries that have looked evil in the face in their history and have had much different results than South Africa. Why is that? This book gives the reader the reasons why this process succeeded. Archbishop Tutu was surprised as a pastor and a man of faith to be asked to chair this committee with so many lawyers, parliamentarians, judges, health care workers and people of other faiths who could have capably led this commission. He also was about to retire and looking forward to it. One can easily see on page 49-50 why lawyers and people who understand government were needed when the law was passed establishing the TRC that the following conditions were allowed for amnesty: 1. The act for which amnesty was required should have happened between 1960, the year of the Sharpeville massacre, and 1994, when President Mandela was inaugurated as the first democratically elected South African head of state. 2. The act must have been politically motivated. Perpetrators did not qualify for amnesty if they killed for personal greed, but they did qualify if they committed the act in response to an order by, or on behalf of, a political organization, such as the former apartheid state and its satellite Bantustan homelands, or a recognized liberation movement such as the ANC or PAC. 3. The applicant had to make a full disclosure of all the relevant facts relating to the offense for which amnesty was being sought. 4. The rubric of proportionality had to be observed-- that the means were proportional to the objective. If those conditions were met, said the law, then amnesty "shall be granted." The Commission dealt with issues of remorse, impunity and justice amongst a very diverse group of people as well as compensation and related issues. President Mandela must have seen something different in appointing a pastor and Archbishop as the Chair that this was indeed going to be a spiritual process rather than merely political. Dealing with issues such as forgiveness, reconciliation and reparation were not normal discussion and decision making in the halls of government. Faith informed the Commissions discussions and particularly the Christian faith. I was deeply impressed with Desmond Tutu, how practical he is, how articulate he is and how his faith informs all that he does. An example on page 82/83- " It was a relief as the Commission to discover that we were all really children of Adam and Eve. When God accosted Adam and remonstrated with him about contravening the order God had given about not eating a certain fruit, Adam had been less than forthcoming in accepting responsibility for that disobedience. No, he shifted the blame to Eve, and when God turned to Eve, she too had taken a leaf from her husband;s book (not the leaf with which she tried to ineffectually to hide her nakedness) and tried to pass the buck. We are not sure how the serpent responded to the blame being pushed on it. So we should have thus not not have been surprised at how reluctant most people were to acknowledge their responsibility for atrocities done under apartheid. They were just being the descendants of their forebears and behaving true to form in being in the denial mode or blaming everyone and everything except themselves." "So frequently we in the commission were quite appalled at the depth of depravity to which human beings could sink and we would, most of us, say that those who committed such dastardly deeds were monsters because the deeds were monstrous. But theology prevents us from doing this. Theology reminded me that, however diabolical the act, it did not turn the perpetrator into a demon. We had to distinguish between the deed and the perpetrator, between the sinner and the sin, to hate and condemn the sin while being filled with compassion for the sinner... theology said they still, despite the awfulness of their deeds, remained children of God with the capacity to repent, to be able to change." This is really a book about forgiveness and reconciliation for awful things done to fellow human beings. It is a book about the scandal of love and grace given to people in the example of Jesus. It is a story of people just being able and encouraged to tell their awful stories of evil done to them, their loved ones and their neighbors. It is a story of how within each of us is the capacity for this same kind of evil. It is also the story of people who have suffered so much, instead of lusting for revenge, they had this extraordinary willingness to forgive. I was deeply moved by this book and I think you will be as well.

"No Future Without Forgiveness" is a must-read for everyone interested in South African history and possibilities for conflict resolution, transformation, forgiveness, and peace around the world. In the book, Desmond Tutu explains why and how South Africa in the 1990s decided to use a very unconventional way of dealing with troubling and painful past and moving forward for the sake of the future. In December 1995, Nelson Mandela, the first democratically elected president of South Africa, appointed Desmond Tutu as the chairperson of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Over the next few years, the Commission held hearings of the victims of apartheid, as well as the perpetrators of some of the most gruesome crimes against humanity ever committed. The purpose of the commission was to help the country discover its racist past and help heal the wounds. Instead of punishing those who committed the crimes during apartheid, the Commission granted them amnesty as long as they fully disclosed their actions and crimes. At the same time, the victims spoke about their suffering, often publicly forgiving their oppressors. As Tutu writes, "the cycles of reprisal and counter-reprisals have to be broken" and we have to go "beyond retributive justice to restorative justice, to move on to forgiveness, because without it there is no future." In the world where the majority still prefers retribution, punishment, and revenge, the work of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission should be closely examined and used as an example in other countries affected by deep-rooted conflicts. After all, reconciliation and forgiveness promoted by Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu have saved South Africa from becoming another Rwanda or Bosnia and have led to a relatively peaceful transition from despotism to democracy and freedom for all.

Archbishop Tutu makes a good case for doing things differently than we are. Lots of people spend lots of time talking about what is wrong in the world but Tutu is one of those rare individuals who actually have shown how to do something about it. If we could just learn from him.

Average Rating:

The establishment of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission was a pioneering international event. Never had any country sought to move forward from despotism to democracy both by exposing the atrocities committed in the past and achieving reconciliation with its former oppressors...

GOT THIS FOR MY NIECE FOR X-MAS ALONG WITH A BALLERINA DOLL. SHE WAS VERY EXCITED.

We read this everyday and my 3 yr old wheres her tutu everywhere. She loves this book.

Excellent book for little girls about a little girl named Tilly that is so excited about her tutu that she never wants to take it off. The only downside to this book is that after reading it, your little ballerina might get the idea that she should wear her tutu everywhere. LOL! My daughter owns a copy of this book and we love it so much that we purchased it for a 4 year olds birthday party and packaged it along with a pink tutu. Great story book for toddlers up to early readers.

this book was in pristine shape; it got here quickly and was so affordable!!!!!!

We first purchased this book a few years ago when our oldest daughter was about 3 1/2 years old and she would wear a tutu EVERY day to school, shopping, etc. She often looked "silly" (just like Tilly in the book) but she was happy and she loved the idea of being a ballerina. This book perfectly captured the intensity of her desire to dress how she wanted. It really was a precious time in her childhood. We even framed an illustration out of the book and have it up on her bedroom wall because it so wonderfully captured who she was during those pre-school years. I wear my Tutu Everywhere is a great book for all those pre-school wanna-be ballerinas. We read it many times over and highly recommend it!

Made for Goodness: And Why This Makes All the Difference Made for Goodness: And Why This Makes All the Difference

Over the years the same questions get asked of Desmond Tutu, the archbishop, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and veteran of the moral movement that ended apartheid in South Africa: "How can you be so hopeful after witnessing so much evil?" "Why are you so sure goodness will triumph in the end?" This book is his answer...
